Bookish Goals for 2025

You are Here:

Ah, yes. 2025. Another new year and a new me, once again. We gather here today to dream big and set goals for the New Year. In my usual fashion, I have several goals that I would like to accomplish, and I am determined to make 2025 my year of thriving. So what does that look like in terms of reading, books, and book adjacent goals? Let me break it down for you.

The Books:

The Yearly Goals

As many of us do, I set a Goodreads/Storygraph goal to complete. For the last two years, I have unfortunately not finished my goal. However, I have also not logged everything that I have read. As a Children’s Library Assistant, I read a lot of children’s literature, including: full series, picture books, board books, graphic novels, etc. For some reason, I had convinced myself that counting these books was “cheating” in a manner of speaking, because they were not full, adult, novels. This year I want to reframe my thinking about the books I am reading. Books are books and that is that. All books count and there is no such thing as “cheating” in reading. This year I have a goal of reading 84 books. I know that I can absolutely smash through this goal.

Reading Widely: Nonfiction

As you know, this blog is all about being widely read in all different genres. Last year, my yearly wrap up was severely lacking in nonfiction books. I read an embarrassing total of one nonfiction book. For me, this needs to be remedied. This year, I have selected five nonfiction books that I would like to read. Here is the list:

  • Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham
  • Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake
  • Drawn Testimony by Jane Rosenberg
  • Dark Archives by Megan Rosenbloom
  • Slow Productivity by Cal Newport

The Source:

I have a big book buying problem. I now own so many books that I am not sure I will be able to get to all of them in this lifetime. This will continue to be a problem if I do not work to tackle the mountain. That is why this year, I will be reading books that I own and utilizing the library. That is not to say that I am on a book buying ban and cannot buy any at all this year, however I need to be responsible. The library is such a great resource, and as much as I love owning books, I now want to be more intentional about what books make it to my personal shelves. Connecticut is full of amazing libraries. Here are a list of libraries I would like to visit this year:

  • The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library
    • Since moving to Connecticut last year, I have not yet been to Yale. I would love to take a day trip to see this iconic library!
  • The Connecticut State Library and Archive
    • There is nothing more thrilling than visiting a state library.
  • The Norfolk Library
    • Isn’t she stunning? I am very excited to sit and read here.
  • The Stonington Free Library
    • I have a friend who works here and I would love to see what they have to offer.

The Blog

I started this blog last year and completely abandoned it. Life got busy and a little complicated, and I unfortunately was unmotivated to continue writing. While I regret my lack of progress last year, I am extremely excited for what I have planned for this blog this year!

Reviews

What is a book blog without reviews? I will be posting my long form reviews of the books that I read here. I find it important to record my thoughts on the books that I read to have ideas to reference when giving book recommendations to readers.

Bookish Pairings

I loved this segment that I started here on my blog and would love to continue doing this. I have so many books that I think belong together on a shelf or should be read in the same sitting. I am looking forward to finding more literary soulmates.

Author Deep Dives

I love fully reading all the works by an author and seeing how their works differ, how their writing style changes, and what more they have to offer.

The YouTube Channel:

I started a YouTube channel to dive deeper into the books that I am reading, recommend curated reading lists for viewers, and dive deep into book characters. If you would like to subscribe here we would love to have you!

The Journey

This year is all about growth, finding my voice, and enjoying and sharing my knowledge of reading. If you are here, I just want you to know I am eternally grateful and cannot wait to go on so many bookish adventures with you. Here’s to 2025!

I’ll see you in the stacks,

Jadzia
